DIY Laundry Washing Powder
Made with 4 simple ingredients, this washing powder can reduce your toxic levels in your home, as well as your household expenses.

- Food processor
- Large glass jar
- Large spoon
Ingredients
- 1 kg Washing Soda
- 1 kg Bicarbonate Soda
- 4 bars Sunlight Soap
- 400 grams Epsom Salts
- 30 drops Essential oil optional
Instructions
- In a food processor, blitz the soap bars 1 at a time until they are in very small pieces. Add to the glass jar.
- Add the epsom salts to the food processor and blitz until crystals are smaller. Add to the jar.
- Add the washing soda, bicarbonate soda and essential oil (optional) to the jar.
- Seal the jar and shake really well to combine all ingredients well.
- Add 2 tablespoons of powder to a load of laundry to enjoy a cheap, low-tox cleaner.
Notes
Essential oils - these are an optional add in, which not only can add a fun fragrance to your clean clothes, but depending on the chosen oil, could also have some extra benefits. Add lavender to add calming tones to your bedding. Citrus oils add a bright and summery scent to your clothes during summer. You could also choose to not add any essential oils to the mixture, but instead directly into your wash load with the powder each time, so you are able to change scents with every wash.
Number of washes - with this size batch, you will be able to get around 150 washes. Working out to under 10cents per wash.
